SIZE DISTRIBUTION OF ATMOSPHERIC AEROSOL AND ITS VARIATION WITH HEIGHT

Size distributions of number concentration of atmospheric aerosol measured by optical particle counter aboarded on aircraft were analysed. Based on the analysis of the formation processes of the size distribution of aerosol, it is pointed out that the atmospheric aerosol is a mixture of four aerosols so that the size distribution function of the aerosol should be a polynomial composed of four normal functions. Parameters for the size distribution function were calculated by means of non-linear least square method, based on the measured size distributions. The variations of number concentration, volume and size distribution function with height are studied. It is found that the spatial distribution of atmospheric aerosol is ununiform in horizontal direction and stratified in vertical direction.
