Evaluation of SO_2 Emission Control in China

In order to evaluate the results of China's “Two-control-Zone” policy for Acid Rain and SO 2 pollution mitigation, the exact grid emission data of SO 2 in 1995, 2000, and 2005 have been finished. With the 3-D Eulerian long-range transport model for SO x, the sulfur deposition and SO 2 density in east Asia were analysed in these three years; the region and total amount of super critical load for sulfur deposition have been calculated. The research results show that with the decrease of SO 2 emission amounts in 21.4% and 28.4% compared with 1995, the total sulfur deposition amounts in China mainland decease 17% and 24.7%. The area of super critical load for sulfur deposition reached 32.7% of our country's area in 1995. According to the China's “Two-control-Zone” policy, the area of super critical load only can decrease from 0.3%~6.9%.
