Changes of intracellular calcium content and cerebral ultrastructures after brainstem ischemia in dogs

After local ischemia of the brain-stem was inflicted to the dogs,the intracellular calcium content of the cerebral tissue was determined with atomic absorption spectroscopy and the changes of cerebral ultrastructures observed with electron microscopy.It was found that the intracellular calcium content was increased and the ultrastructures of cerebral neurons damaged and the severity of these changes were positively correlated to the intensity of brain-stem ischemia.
