RECORDS FROM LAKE SEDIMENTS OF THE QINGHAI LAKE TO MIRROR CLIMATIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHANGES OF THE PAST ABOUT 1 000 YEARS

The data of TOC, Rb/Sr and carbonate content in the Qinghai Lake sediment core (QH00A) show in the past about 1 000 years this area experienced five cold-wet periods and five warm-dry periods. During the cold periods of 1 050~1 160 A.D., 1 290~1 330 A.D., 1 470~1 570 A.D., 1 620~1 680 A.D. and 1 770~1 870 A.D., the lake enlarged several times because of low salinity. The higher Rb/Sr reflects that chemical weathering was weaker. Such climatic events as "Medieval Warm Period", "Little Glacial" and "20 Century Warming" were well recorded in the sediment core. These results are comparable with those based on tree ring, ice core and historical records.$$$$
