A high resolution pollen and charcoal analyses on a paleosoil section at Yangjiawan village which is located in 39°28′08″N and 110°09′92″E, with an elevation of 1 219 m, Yijinhuoluo Banner reveals the environment changes of Mu Us Sandyland, east of Ordos Plateau. Before 4 500aB.P., mobile dunes appeared in the Mu Us Sandyland. Later, sand dunes were stabilized in response to humid climate. During the period of 4 200~3 500aB.P., it was the thermal maximum and there were needle broad leaf forests. After 3 500aB.P., the climate became dry and the forests disappeared 2 700 ~2 400aB.P., there were more plants of Chenopodiaceae grew on the land, as the climate became drier, but still more humid than today. Since 2 400aB.P., the Black Soils that developed during the Middle Holocene were destroyed and eroded seriously and the sand dunes reactivated again influenced by the climate cooling of Late Holocene and Human activities. The charcoal concentration changes on the Yangjiawan palaeosoil section and the ancient relics discovered near the section reflect the impacts of Human activities on the fragile environment.
