Osteogenetic activity in vivo of true bone ceramic with osteoblastic compound substances

AIM To observe the osteogenetic activity of true bone ceramic (TBC) oxteoblast composite following in vivo implantation. METHODS The composite meterials derived from decreased, calcined and cultured rabbit osteoblasts, and organized by cattle cancellus bone, were implanted in subcutis of BALB/c nude mice and in the muscle pouches of rabbit 28 d later. Slices were observed to study the group osteogenetic activity of implanted substance. RESULTS In TBC/periosteal derived osteoblast (POB), the subcutis of BALB/c nude mice, the muscle pouches of rabbit groups, a large of fibroblasts grew and some of them changed to cartilage cells. Osteoid tissues grew by sarolemma with a large of osteoblasts around them. However, in TBC group, a large of connective tissue and small blood vessels grew in the substance. There were a few macrophages, but no osteoblast. CONCLUSION The osteoblasts in the pores of TBC POB composite are able to live, expand and form cartilage and bone. TBC POB has good osteogenetic activity.
