Development of photoelastic model for mandibular central incisor with different residual root length and periodontal tissue

AIM: To manufacture the photoelastic model for mandibular central incisor with different residual root length and periodontal tissue. METHODS: According to the principles of similarity, different materials were used to manufacture the photoelastic model that included the residual root, alveolar bone and periodontal membrane of the first tooth in the C zone. RESULTS: The photoelastic model was pallide-flavens and transparent. The thickness of periodontal membrane was 0.22-0.25 mm. The proportion of elastic modulus of different materials in the model was 1.35∶1∶0.00030. CONCLUSION: The photoelastic model can be applied in qualitative analysis of the stress distribution in the periodontal supporting tissues of residual roots restored with post-and-crown.
