Aim:To study the modulation mechanism of acupuncture in gastrointestinal functions. Methods:Forthy healthy human subjects were acupunctured, they were divided into 4 groups(each n=10),group tianshu(on tianshu and guanyuan points),group juxu (on shangjuxu and xiajuxu points),control group with acupuncture in none acupoints and without acupuncture. The changes of plasma motilin, somatostatin and endothelin levels before, during and after acupuncture were observed respectively. Results: The plasma motilin, somatostatin and endothelin levels in tianshu and juxu groups after acupuncture were much higher than that before acupuncture (P0.05,P0.01,respectively),while six times the concentration of motilin, somatostatin and endothelin in 150 min in control group with without acupuncture and control group with dispoints had little change (P0.05). The plasma motilin levels in 60 min after stopping acupuncture were higher than that before acupuncture. Conclusion:The study indicate that acupuncture at different points of the body may stimulate the release of plasma motilin, somatostatin and endothelin. It provides available reference for probing the adjusting mechanism of acupuncture on gastrointestinal functions.
