On the "Classification" as the Starting Point of Xun Tzu's Philosophy

DU Jun-long (College of Philosophy and Sociology,Beijing Normal University,Beijing 100087, China)
Among sages of the time,Xun Tzu's thoughts are clearly characterized by classification. In Xun Tzu's classification thinking mode, there can be perceived the profound influence of Confucianism and the reference of reality.Firstly, the conformity to and maintenance of etiquette by Confucians gave significant influences to Xun Tzu;secondly,Xun Tzu responded to the academic arguments of the time;and thirdly, there was Xun Tzu's theoretical analysis on man and human nature.Xun Tzu's thoughts of classification strove to conform the chaotic reality of the world and made prophase preparations for the establishment of Grand Unified Theory.Xun Tzu's thoughts of classification is also an important viewpoint to give annotation to Confucianism.
