SIMULATING CALCULATION METHOD OF MAGNETIZING INRUSH CURRENT OF POWER TRANSFORMERS USING CONCEPT OF INSTANTANEOUS POWER

Only using the normal magnetizing curve (B-H curve) of the material for transformer core, its geometric dimensions, the no-load power loss data and the conception of instantaneous power, a new simulating method is presented in this paper. It enables to calculate the magnetizing inrush current occurring in case of switching on no-load transformer at different switching angles and different remanent flux. Based on the calculated results, such characteristics of the magnetizing inrush current are analyzed as the relationship of magnitude, waveform, discontinuous angle with respect to remanent flux and switching angles, etc. At last, the result of simulating calculation using EMTP for the same transformer is compared with that obtained by the method presented in this paper and the result of comparison shows that this method is helpful for verifying the correctness of power transformer design and for the research of new transformer protection principle, e. g., applying the neural network to transformer protection, etc.
