DEVELOPMENT OF A NEW POWER TRANSFORMER PROTECTION

HU Yu feng, CHEN De shu, YIN Xiang gen, ZHANG Zhe (Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan 430077, Hubei Province, China)  
In this paper, a new type of power transformer protection based on microprocessor is presented. Using virtual third harmonic and sampling value differential principles as the criterion of identifying inrush current, the protection perfectly combines the advantage of harmonic restrain and dead angle lock, and avoids the weakness in their performance. The dynamic simulation test shows that the new protection possesses high reliability and good speed, especially, under the situation which cannot be distinguished correctly by traditional protective relaying method the new protection has excellent performance and can satisfy the demand of UHV system. At present, the protection has been running in the power system for test.
