STUDY ON TRANSMISSION TOWER MODELS AND THEIR LIGHTNING PERFORMANCE CALCULATION

The critical value of stroke current and the lightning stroke outages rate are the main parts in the evaluation of transmission line lightning performance. In recent years, along with the more and more application of the technology of parallel double circuit on same tower the lightning stroke simultaneity outage rate of double-circuit became an important target in the assessment of transmission line lightning performance. In current domestic calculation methods of lightning performance there are disputes and evident differences, so in the respect of the transmission tower model, basic principle of calculation, calculation process, accuracy of calculated result and adaptability of the two general-used calculation methods for transmission line lightning performance, i.e., the surge impedance model method and inductance model method, are compared. The comparison results show that the operability of inductance model method is better than that of surge impedance model method and inductance model and possesses wider accommodation range, and the disadvantages in the calculation results by inductance model method, such as lower critical value of stroke current and a higher lightning stroke outage rate, are not caused by this calculation method it own, but by the too high lightning stroke induced voltage of conductors which is leading in the calculation. In addition, it is pointed out that the common demerit of the two calculation methods is that a determinate method to calculate the lightning stroke simultaneity tripout rate of parallel double-circuit transmission lines is not given.
