SIMULATION STUDY OF VSC-HVDC SYSTEM CONNECTED TO PASSIVE NETWORK

Through the analysis on voltage source converter (VSC) equations in dq0 coordinate system, the conclusion that the active power and reactive power in VSC based HVDC (VSC–HVDC) system can be independently controlled by d-axis current component and q-axis current component, and constant DC voltage controller and constant AC voltage controller are designed. On the basis of establishing Matlab simulation model for transmitting power to passive network via VSC–HVDC system, the simulation of control modes, such as constant DC voltage control, constant AC voltage control and constant reactive power control, is conducted. Simulation results show that the built VSC–HVDC system can meet the need of supplying power to passive network and the control modes are flexible and simple, moreover VSC–HVDC system can absorb or issue reactive power while it is used to transmit active power.
