A New Accurate Measuring Method of Phase Difference Suitable for Asynchronous Sampling

A new method based on correlation theory to accurately measure phase difference between electrical signals and their frequency is proposed. Under the condition of synchronous sampling, after normalizing voltage and current signals the value of their crosscorrelation function at initial moment directly reflects the phase difference between the two signals. When the frequency of electrical signals fluctuates, synchronous sampling changes into asynchronous process; in such circumstance according to the principle of correlation function an improved phase difference measuring algorithm is deduced. The main uncertainty sources in actual measurement are analyzed and the influencing extent of uncertainty sources to the quality of measured result is researched quantitatively. With the improved algorithm the phase difference and the frequency of signals can be simultaneously measured, and the measured results are of higher accuracy. The improved algorithm is suitable to both synchronous measurement and asynchronous measurement. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by tests and simulation.
