A New Control Strategy Using VSC-HVDC to Improve Generator Damping

In AC/DC hybrid power system, DC power modulation is often used to improve the stability of AC power system. Here, a model of AC/DC hybrid power system including VSC-HVDC system is established; on this basis a new method of hybrid power modulation for VSC-HVDC system is proposed to enhance generator damping. In the proposed method the hybrid modulation signals are designed by using Bang-bang control theory and are added to conventional PI regulator. The simulation results show that, with the hybrid modulation signals, the system damping can be strengthened and oscillation can be restrained effectively, so the dynamic performance of AC/DC hybrid power system under different disturbances can be improved.
