Reactive Power Optimization Based on Plant Growth Simulation Algorithm

A novel plant growth simulation algorithm is proposed for reactive power optimization of power system. A unified pattern to transform three kinds of control variables, i.e., reactive power compensation, transformer tap and nodal voltage of generator, into integer variables is also presented. The results of calculation and analysis of Ward-Hale 6-bus system and IEEE 30-bus system as well as those of the research on the influence of the amount of discrete points of generator's nodal voltage on calculation result show that the plant growth simulation algorithm, which possesses both random and directional search mechanism, has good global search ability and can be used conveniently. It creates a new field for reactive power optmization of power system.
