Discussion on Insulation Level of 1 000 kV Transformer

The 1 000 kV transformer is one of the most important equipments for 1 000 kV AC power transmission project. In order to further advance the insulation configuration of UHV systems and enhance its ability to withstand overvoltage and improve its operation condition,the overvoltages among three windings of 1 000 kV transformer,i.e.,high voltage winding with rated voltage of 1 000 kV,medium voltage winding with rated voltage of 500 kV and low voltage winding with rated voltage of 110 kV,and insulation configuration of this kind of transformer are discussed in depth. To create the condition for descending the switching/lightning insulation level of 500 kV windings of 1 000 kV transformer and improving the structural design of 1 000 kV transformer as well as enlarging its capacity,the parameters of high performance lightning arrester for 500 kV windings of 1 000 kV transformer are recommended.
