Modeling and Analysis of Unit Commitment to Accommodate Intermittent Uncertainty

Variations and uncertainties in intermittent wind power generation lead to new challenges whether unit commitment schedule is feasible to cope with constraints at any time instant or time intervals. Considering this problem, intermittent uncertainties were expressed with wind power uncertainty range, variation speed and its acceleration. Then, essential conditions were deduced to accommodate intermittent uncertainties, with the power system ability to offer these evaluated conditions. At last, a new unit commitment model was proposed. Based on the proposed model, a feasible unit commitment schedule considering wind power intermittent uncertainties is provided. Furthermore, relationship between unit commitment schedule and wind power accommodation is discussed. Together with economic benefits, the system ability to accommodate wind power is also analyzed under different rigorous scenarios.
