Load Balance-Based Optimal Dispatching Method for Power Systems With Wind Farms

With increase of wind power penetration in power system, wind power ramp events pose serious operational risk to power system dispatching. It is necessary to study dispatching strategies for power systems with wind power integrated. Based on wind power ramping characteristics, a wind power ramp event model is developed, and an optimal dispatching model considering wind power ramp event constraint is constructed. Dispatching strategy of thermal power units is proposed by adopting load balancing algorithm, and applied to dispatching of power systems with wind power. Effectiveness of the model and algorithm is verified by dispatching results of power systems with wind power ramp events at different levels. The results prove that by adopting load balancing algorithm, thermal units can effectively balance wind power vacancy caused by wind power ramp events and ensure demand of actual ramp capacity in power system.
