THE EFFECTS OF MANGANESE ON THE REPRODUCTIVE FUNCTION AND LEVELS OF SERUM LH, TESTOSTERONE IN STUD-COCKS

The effects of dietary Manganese (Mn) on testieular histology and the level of serum LH and testosterone as well as reproductive function for stud-cocks were determined by the methods of histology and radiommuoassay. The results showed that in deficieney-Mn Group Ⅰ (added Mn 0 ppm) and, exeess-Mn Group Ⅳ (added Mn 300 ppm) the growth of testis was impeded, and diameters of seminiferous tubules, the number of spermatozoa, hatehability of eggs and serum testosterone levels were decreased but serum LH level was increased in comparison with those in Group Ⅲ (added Mn 100 ppm). It was suggested that one of important reasons in the decrease of repreduetive function for stud-cocks, which Was induced by the high-or low-Mn ration, was that Mn affected the testosterone level secreted by interstitial cells.
