An Overview of Analytical Methods of Bromine Stable Isotope(~(81)Br) of BOCs and Its Significance to Biogeochemical Cycle

Brominated Organic Compounds(BOCs) have become emerging global persistent organic pollutants and attract the most attention following chlorinated organic compounds.The rapid development of analytical methods for bromine isotope makes it possible and effective for further research on biogeochemical cycle of BOCs in the environment.Based on the overview of studies of bromine stable isotope(81Br) of BOCs,we think that: ①Compound-Specific Isotope Analysis of organobromine compound(CSIA-OBr) based on the technique of gas chromatography/ multicollector inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(GC-MC-ICPMS) is the main trend of studies of bromine isotope,and its difficulty is the correction of bromine isotope data;②Compared with C and H isotopes,CSIA-OBr provides more direct information for identification of BOCs sources,transmission and biodegradation,and its difficulty is the fractionation mechanism of bromine isotope by microorganisms;③Simultaneous determination for multi-isotopes of C,H and Br and studies of significances of these three isotopes reveal a bright future for their development and application.
