ON THE MECHANISM OF INTRAPLATE DEFORMATION IN CHINESE CONTINENT

There are widespread and rather strong intraplate deformations in Chinese continent. The reasons for that are as follows: (1) The small blocks are abundant and unstable; (2) The thickness of sedimentary cover is rather huge; (3) The blocks suffered multi\|stages of collision and amalgamation; and (4) The motions of adjacent plates are rather strong since Mesozoic and the intraplate tectonic stress fields changed many times in this stage. By the discussion, the author recognized that the far\|field effect transmitted by the subduction or collision between plates is the main dynamics to bring about the widespread and rather strong intraplate deformation. Thus, by the dynamics with almost horizontal and changeable orientation and because of the different strength of layers and spheres in lithosphere, a series of detachment, delamination or many faults were induced, which caused the occurrence of partial pressure decreasing areas and thus brought out the magmatism in depth, and formed widespread and strong intraplate deformation in Chinese continent.
