Adsorption capability of 13X zeolite molecular sieve to Hg~(2+) in water:An experimental study.

The primary influential factors,the capacities of adsorption and desorption, and the mechanism for the removal of Hg~(2+) in water by using 13X zeolite were experimentally investigated. The results showed that the optimum conditions for the removal of Hg~(2+) are:the 5~6 pH value of the solutions,the adsorption time of 20 min and the adsorption temperature of 20~30 ℃. The adsorption capacity could reach 21.87 mg of Hg~(2+) per gram of 13X zeolite in 100 mg/L Hg~(2+) concentration. Adsorption proportions of Hg~(2+) were higher in high concentration than those in low concentration were. 13X zeolite could decrease Hg~(2+) concentration from 0.01 mg/L to 0.004 mg/L. The 13X zeolite saturated with Hg~(2+) could be regenerated in saturated NaCl solutions without noticeable loss of capacity. The result of removal of Hg~(2+) was even more efficient. Exchanged Hg~(2+) from 13X zeolite could be recovered by Na_2S·9H_2O solutions. Recovery rate of Hg~(2+) could reach 90 percent. The experimental results show that the 13X zeolite is suitable for the removal of low concentration Hg~(2+) in water.
