The dynamic thermal regime of sedimentary basins can be evaluated either onthe basin scale or on the lithosphere scale, which results in reconstruction of the basinthermal history. On the basin scale thermal history is derived from multiple thermal indi-cators by direct or indirect inversion, while on the lithosphere scale it is estimated usingforward modelling of basin tectonothermal evolution,In this paper the progresses in kinet-ic models of three main thermal indicators(R,AFT and I/S)and in basin formation mod-els are reviewed. The inversion and forward models are outlined for reconstruction of thebasin thermal history, and a few of related points are stressed. Finally,a newly developedsimulating system of thermal history and tectonothermal evolution is introduced。
