OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRESS IN INTERNATIONAL GLOBAL CHANGE RESEARCH

Global Change Research is the largest activity organised by the international scientific and technological circles. The need for understanding of our own planet has motivated the scientific community to develop major international research programmes in order to provide policy makers with the best available scientific knowledge for setting strategies and for sustainable development. From its organization and management, programme planning and implementation, coordination and capacity building, the international global change research has been formed into an organic framework system. World wide communities of scientists work together on each of the following major programmes, World Climate Research Programme (WCRP), International Geosphere Biosphere Programme (IGBP), Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change Programme (HDP) and DIVERSITAS. In this paper, the author overviews the current status and progress in the organization framework, programme system and major study links (observing study, process study, predicting study, impact analysis study, data and information management study, countermeasures and policy assessment study) of the international global change research.
