The content of serum mineral elements in children with dental fluorosis at different degree

Objective To detect mineral element levels in childn with dental fluorosis and to study the relations be- tween serum fluoride and mineral elements,Methods 80 children in Grade 5 were chosen from three coal-burning fluorosis areas and one non-fluorosis area in Xinhua County, Hnnan Province.They were divided into six groups by the seriousness of the dental fluorosis:control group, doubtful group,very light group,light group,medium group and severe group.The content of fluoride,calcium,magnesium,copper,iron,zinc in serum was detected. The correlations Between serum fluoride and those ele- ments were analyzed.Results In different groups, concentration of serum fluoride,calcium,iron,zinc was significantly differ- ent(F was 17.802,5.335,14.356,2.881 respectively,P0.05 P0.01)and that of serum magnesium,copper had no significant difference(P0.05).The levels of calcium,zinc showed descendent trend while the levels of iron tended to in- crease with seriousness of dental luorosis.There was a negative correlation between the content of fluoride and calcium,zinc in serum(r was-0.687,-0.563 respectively,P0.01).The serum fluoride and iron were positive correlativity(r=0.464,P0.01).Conclusions There is a disorder of mineral elements such as calcium, iron, zinc in children with dental fluorosis.
