Application of rapid prototyping manufacturing in making mould

PENG Guang-wei (Mechanical Engineering Department,Zhuzhou Professional Technology College,Zhuzhou 412000,China)  
Rapid prototyping manufacturing(RPM)is a totally new technology integrated with CAD,precise mecha- nism,numerical control,laser and material science developed from 1980 s and has been researched and used widely due to its high flexibility and rapidity.Rapid tooling(RT)based on RPM as an advanced manufacturing technology with shortening exploiting time and producing period of product becomes one of the most important study projects and core technologies in manufacturing industry.Various RPM technologyies being used most frequently at present,such as SLA,LOM,SLS,FDM and TDP were introduced and the principle,technology and research development of manufac- turing metal-mould and nonmetal-mould directly or indirectly by RPM were discussed.The afterward application of RPM in making mould was predicted.
