Analytical study on platinum loading of membrane electrode assembly in PEMFC

Membrane electrode assembly(MEA) is a key component in proton exchange membrane fuel cell(PEMFC).The platinum loading on the electrode is an important factor of the performance and the cost of fuel cells.The test sample was prepared by direct treating MEA samples,the platinum content of the prepared sample was measured by three methods,i.e.graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry(GF-AAS),inductively coupled plasmas atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES) and polarographic wave analyzing.The measurement results and the theoretical values were compared.The results show that ICP-AES is an accurate and convenient method for measuring platinum loading on MEA.It is great significative for analyzing and evaluating the MEA of PEMFCs.
