Effects of Astragalus Polysaccharides on Histamine of Intestine in Piglets Stimulated by Lipopolysaccharides

To investigate the effects of astragalus polysaccharide(APS) on intestinal histamine in piglets stimulated by lipopolysaccharides(LPS),32 male castration three-way cross pigs(30 day age,10.28±0.61kg) were used,using 2×2 factor experimental design,which is the diet type(0 or 500 mg/kg APS) and immune stress treatment(LPS or saline injection),half of the diet type treatment group piglets were injected with 50 mg/kg BW LPS,the other half were injected equivalent saline as control at 14th and 21st day.On 25 d,piglets were slaughtered,and some piglet duodena,jejuna and ilea were fixed in Carnoy`s fluid respectively.Conventional embedding,6 μm sections,immunohistochemical determination were made.The results showed that APS and LPS can significantly reduce histamine content of the small intestine in piglets(P0.01) respectively.However,the histamine content was significantly increased(P0.01) when APS and LPS were used together.The data suggests that APS plays some roles in anti-allergy or anti-inflammatory effects by reducing the content of histamine,but APS using with LPS can increase histamine levels,thereby enhance the intestinal immune function in piglets.
