The Application of Carbon Nanotube-polypyrrole Composite to Supercapacitor

Carbon nanotube-polypyrrole composite was prepared by polymerizing polypyrrole onto carbon nanotubes with chemical or electrochemical methods. With the acquired composites as active materials of electrodes, the prototype supercapacitors were made. Electrochemical tests, such as cyclic voltammetry, charging-discharging cycles were carried out. The specific capacitance the capacitor with composite electrodes has been greatly enhanced (up to 23.6 F/g) compared with the that of those capacitors with pure carbon nanotube electrodes (up to 2.3 F/g) or pure polypyrrole electrodes (up to 3.9 F/g). This might be caused by cooperative effect between carbon nanotube and covered polypyrrole.
