This paper studied on the failure model and stability of tangential slope with many bed weak layers at spillway slope at one hydropower station.The deformation and failure model of the tangential slope was studied by qualitative analysis method and finite element modeling based on analyzing engineering geological conditions and rock mass structure,which indicates that the deep failure model of the slope is block broken that controlled by the extension of bed weak layers,and that the failure model of the slope is block broken in partial slope and slip-tension crack along maximum shearing stress band in the zone of heavy weathering and unloading rock mass.The partial and integral slope stability is analyzed systematically using block theory and limit equilibrium theory,which indicates that the stability coefficient of the area of heavy weathering and unloading rock mass in the superficial slope is low and the slope may destroy under some conditions such as storm rainfall and earthquake,while the stability in deep slope is fine.
