Complexity Analysis of Gearbox Vibration Signal

A measure of complexity defined by Lempel and Ziv represents the rate of new patterns generating in a given string when its length grows, it is also a measure to describe a string in what degree to close to randomness. The complexity measurement is applied in gear vibration signal. The results show that the complexity values of good gear vibration signal is smaller than that of bad gear vibration. Results suggest that the complexity could be regarded as a feature parameter in the fault diagnosis. It is worthy to be further studied.
