An Analysis of Vegetation Coverage Change of Daqing City Based on TM Remote Sensing Data

Vegetation, as an important component of ecosystem, is the basis of ecosystem and is also the natural"tie"which connects soil, atmosphere and moisture content. The change of vegetation coverage is an important target of regional eco-environmental change. Taking Daqing City as an example and using NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) method to estimate the degree of vegetation coverage, this paper analyzes the change of vegetation coverage, based on RS and GIS techniques and remote sensing data of TM respectively in 1990, 2001 and 2007. The result shows that mean value of NDVI in the city dropped from 1990 to 2001 and rose from 2001 to 2007 and the mean value of NDVI and vegetation coverage area in the past 17 years had experienced changes of different degrees in each administrative area, indicating that the city started to attach great importance to environment after the ecological destruction and took various measures to govern the ecology, achieving remarkable progress, which proves that human activities are responsible for the change of urban vegetation coverage.
