A New Variable Step-Size LMS Algorithm and Its Simulations

Based on a brief discussion on standard LMS and its improved VSS algorithm, a new LMS algorithm of variable step size is proposed to addressthe traditional VSS algorithm shortcomings caused by the small step size factor, which refrain from the speed of convergence. The new algorithm makes use of the forgetting factor λ( i )( i = 0,1, … , L? 1) to produce the new variable step size. Computer simulation results show that the new algorithm has higher speed of convergence than the standard LMS algorithm, VSS algorithm and MVSS algorithm。
