SOME PROBLEMS IN THE STUDY OF THE NORTHERN SECTOR OF THE TANCHENG-LUJIANG FRACTURE ZONE

Hong Zuoming (Regional Geological Survey Party, Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Liaoning Province)
In recent years, great advances have been made in the study of the Tancheng-Lujiang fracture, but there are still some problems awaiting solution; they are: 1. The problem concerning pre-Mesozoic structures in Liaoning-southern Jilin. The overlapping relationships between middle-late Proterozoic structures and the changes in lithofacies and thickness show that the tectonic framework at that time was marked by NE-trending uplifts and depressions. The early and late Paleozoic tectonic frameworks were marked by E-W- and NE-trending uplifts and depressions respectively. 2. The problem concerning the time of formation of the Tancheng-Lujiang fracture zone and its evolution since the Mesozoic. After its appearance in the Archean, the Mesozoic Era withessed intense activity, the late Indosinan-early Yanshanian time (T-J) witnessed the formation of thrust nappes, the Yanshanian time (K) witnessed sinistral strike slip, and the early Himalayan time (E) witnessed dextral strike slip. 3. The problem concerning the evidence of the largeseale strike slip of the Tancheng-Lujiang fracture. There is no drag phenomenon at both sides of the fracture produced by strike slip, and the structural lines of the geologic bodies at both sides correspond with each other. The strike-slip amplitude measures only a few tens of to over a hundred kilometers.
