PALEOMAGNETIC POLARITY OF THE PERMIAN EMEISHAN BASALT IN SICHUAN

Zhou Yaoxiu;Lu Lianzhong;Zhang Bingming Central Research Institute of Aerogeophysical Exploration, MGMR Wuhan College of Geology Institute of Geophysical and Geochemical Exploration, MGMR
On the basis of the paleomagnetic determination on specimens from the Permianstrata in the Panzhihua--Xichang area, two groups of paleomagnetic vectors in theopposite directions have been obtained——one is in the NE quadrant and the otherin the SW quadrant. According to the international geomagnetic polarity time scaleand the isotopic age data of the Emeishan Basalt, it is proposed that the paleoma-gnetic direction in the NE quadrant originated in the normal polarity epoch, whilethat in the SW quarant in the reversed polarity epoch.
