Miniature Amplitude-Llimited Perpendicular-Vibration Electric Field Sensors with Multi-Driving-Electrodes

This paper introduces a MEMS-fabrication-based micro electric field sensor (EFS) with four driving electrodes and a unique supporting structure. The driving electrodes have absolutely same dimensions, two of which are used as driving electrodes and the other two can function as vibration-detecting electrodes to monitor the vibrating status. The unique supporting structure can limit the range of vibrating amplitudes, so that the EFS can work steadily under the driving pulse signals. Besides the advantages of other EFSs, the EFS mentioned here possesses the advantage of the ability of choosing different driving modes according to the demands of various conditions, which enables us to reduce the total weight of the whole system by deploying simple measuring system or to improve the accuracy and steadiness by deploying more complicated one. This paper introduces the structures, working principles and realizations of three different driving modes, also discuss the applications under various conditions.
