PHYSIOLOGICAL EFFECTS OF BRASSINOLIDE AND ITS APPLICATION IN AGRICULTURE

Brassinolide (Br) as a new plant hormone is a steroidal lactone, which was first isolatedfrom the pollen of rape. It was demonstrated that in many biological test systems Br showsstrong physiological activity at low concentration compared with other known plant hormonesand its effects on the growth and developmen of plantsmay be regulated by the mechanismdifferent from that of the known plant hormones It has been observed by our group that Br exhibits activity in retarding the senescence ofhypocoty1. segments of mung bean, stimulating their elongation and maintaining the integrityof ultrastructure of cells against destruction during senescence.we have also found that Br drama-tically promotes the growth of various cereal and vegetable crops.
