LATE CRETACEOUS SPORO-POLLEN ASSEMBLAGES OF SHACHE DISTRICT, XINJIANG

Yu Jingxian (Institute of Geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences)
Marine and lagoonal beds of Upper Cretaceous age are known from Shache district, Xinjiang. Three new genera, Xinjiangpollis, Yenjisapollis, Papillotricolporites, one emended genus Sofrcpites and 10 new species are described. The Sporo-Pollen sequence is divided into 3 palynological assemblages: 1) Nevesisporites radiatus—Tricolpites micromunus assemblage is characterized by abundant Schizaeoisporites, Nevesisporites radiatus, Polycingulatisporites reduncus, Gleicheniidites and Classopollis etc, and a small number of Cicatricosisporites, Galeacornea and Elaterosporites. Angiospermae forms fluctuate between 7.2—18.2% of total with plenty of Tricolpites, suggesting Late Cenomanian-Early Turonian in age. 2) Senegalosporites cretaceus-Cranwellia striata assemblage tends to increase conspicuously in angiospermaes (12.5—21%), including such species as : Cranwellia striata, C. rumseyensis, C. crassicolpita and Latipollis subtilis referred to the Early and Middle Turonian-Early Senonian. 3) Gabonisporis bacaricumulus—Xinjiangpollis striatus assemblage in which angiospermaes increase both in quantity (20—33.5%) and variety of types, such as Papillotricolporites, Xinjiangpollis, Yenjisapollis, Periporoporites, Myrtaceidites, Beaupreaidites assigned to Early-Middle Senonian. The Late Cretaceous palynological flora of Shache district, Xinjiang is related not only to the Middle East-South American Province by the presence of Elaterosporites, Senegalosporites and Sofrepites, but also to the Euramerican Province by the existence of Latipollis and Papillopollis.
