Fatigue Assessment of Hanger Wires of Suspension Bridges in Its Operation Life Based on In-situ Traffic Flow

Integrating traffic data measured from in-situ bridges with those from numerical simulation analysis,fatigue vehicle load model and fatigue evaluation method of hangers in large span suspension bridges are established in this paper.The effect of different lanes on hangers′fatigue life is considered.Taking the hangers of Jiangyin Bridge as the research example,the evaluation method based on S-Ncurve of suspenders fatigue damage is proposed,which can provide scientific basis for detection,repair,and management decision of suspenders.The research result shows that the fatigue life of short suspenders is shorter than the longer ones and short suspenders are the focus of maintenance.Fatigue replacement of hangers of Jiangyin Bridge doesn′t need to be considered in the 20years design life,but monitoring measures should be taken for short hangers.The method presented in this paper can be used for cable suspension bridge safety assessment and residual life analysis.
