THE WATER LEVEL IN COMPRESSED WELLS INRESPONSE TO THE TIDAL EFFECTS OFTHE SURFACE WATER

Starting from the partial differential equations describing the influence by the tidal effects of surface water on the level in the compressed wells, and jointly considering the boundary conditions for the mutual permeation between the wells and the aquifer, this paper obtains solution for the aforementioned equations. Through calculating the possible values of the aquifer parameters of the well in the solution, curves are plotted to show the tidal-loading efficiency of the water level in the compressed wells as well as their phase lags. The paper then discusses the relations between the tidal-loading efficiency, the phase lags and the well aquifer parameters. It is concluded that such tidal-loading efficiency is mostly determined by the porosity of the aquifer and the compression coefficient of the solid frames, i. e. smaller porosity and greater compression coefficient tend to yield higher tidal-loading officiency. The phase lags are mostly determined by the permeation coefficient and thickness of the aquifer, i. c. greater values of those 2 parameters will cause smaller phase lags.The paper also introduces the result from observations on the ground water level and the surface water tides obtained in Shanghai area. Those observational results agree quite well with the, theoretical results described in this paper
