OBJECTIVE To evaluate the quality-of-lifeoutcomes in patients of maxillary reconstruction with freefibula composite flap. METHODS Quality-of-life (QOL)outcomes of 22 patients of maxillary reconstruction withfree fibula flap and 14 patients with prosthetic obturatorswere assessed using University of Washington Head andNeck QOL questionnaire (UW-QOL). At the same time, the preoperative and postoperative QOL of the patientswith free fibula flap were compared. RESULTS Maxillaryreconstruction with free fibula flap achieved significantlysuperior functional QOL outcomes (P 0.05). There wasno statistically difference between the preo perative QOLand postoperative QOL in the patients with free fibula flap(P 0.05). CONCLUSION Maxillary reconstruction withfree fibula composite flap can improve QOL significantly. It is a good choice for maxillary reconstruction.[
