The Marginal Man of the New Era:on Olga Slavnikova's Novel The Immortal

Hou Dan;
The Russian woman writer Olga Slavnikova's novel The Immortal explores the real life of ordinary people in current Russia from a unique angle. It reveals the impact of social transition on ordinary people's daily life through the experience of the World War Ⅱ veteran Kharitonov's familymembers' experience after the collapse of the Soviet Union. All the members of Kharitonov's family, from parent to son, unfortunately fall into the edge of the new era, becoming bystanders of new life. Through different stories of Kharitonov's family, the author denounces the reality of emotional apathy and moral degeneration in current Russia.
