Analysis of Influence of Fault Activation on Protective Coal Pillar Presetting for Surface Buildings and Structures

The mining practice showed that the rational presetting of the protective coal pillar for surface buildings and structures affected by faults was one of the most important problems to be considered in the preliminary design of a coal mine.Based on the analysis of mining dynamic mechanism of fault activation and combined with the influence of the faults in different occurrences on the surface movement and deformation,the pillar presetting method for surface buildings and structures affected by fault was put forward. The research showed that the mining- induced fault activation was related to the factors such as the stress state of the fault plane,the dip angle of the fault,the cohesion and internal friction angle of the rock on the fault plane,the fluid pressure on the fault plane and so on. In the presetting of the protective coal pillars for surface buildings and structures affected by faults,the influence factors such as the mining parameters of the working face,the physical and mechanical parameters of the fault plane,the mining method and so on should all be considered so as to determine the width of the protective coal pillar with both numerical and similar simulation methods.
