Hydrolysis of Carbonyl Sulfide over Sulfidized Rare Earth Oxides

The hydrolysis of carbonyl sulfide was studied over a novel type of rare earth oxysulfides. According to the catalytic activity of sulfidized rare earth oxides, they can be divided into three groups: The most active catalysts of pretreated oxides of La, Pr, Nd and Sm; the middle active catalyst of pretreated oxide of Eu; and the low active catalysts of pretreated oxides of Ce, Gd, Ho, Dy and Er. The XRD analysis showed that the rare earth oxysulfide is the active phase for the COS hydrolysis. The effect of concentration of H2O and COS was also investigated.
