Enlightenment from Breeding and Application of Indica Restorer Line Minghui82 for Hybrid Rice

Minghui82 was an early maturing and disease resistance restorer line for hybrid rice developed by Sanming Research Institute of Agricultural Sciences of Fujian province.It played an important role in broadening genetic background of early maturing restorer lines,realizing resistance gene diversification,improving heterosis level,increasing yield,improving rice quality and satisfying different demands of the early maturing hybrid rice in Fujian province.Up to 2010,there were 6 combinations of hybrid rice approved by provincial crop variety registration committee,and one of them was approved by the national authorities in China.The statistics indicated that the total planting area of hybrid rice combinations derived from Minghui82 was 600 thousand hectare,the output of rice increased by 349 million kilograms.Furthermore,Minghui82 was am important backbone parental to breed early maturing restorer lines.Up to 2010,5 new restorer lines were bred successfully derived from Minghui82 as the main parent in China.6 combinations of hybrid rice with these new restorer lines were approved by the national and provincial crop variety registration committee.Finally,the anthor discussed the reason that the restorer line Minghui82 of hybrid rice was widely utilized.
