Progress on Prevention and Control Measures of Odor Emission

The production mechanism and main components of odor originated from municipal solid waste (MSW) composting facilities are described. The main odor components are sulfide, amine, volatile fatty acid, ketones and aldehydes while comprehensive profile data need further study. The most popular control method for odor from the composting is biological treatment including biofiltration, bioscrubber, biotrickling filter and activated sludge aeration. As the odor components are complicated and fluctuating, the removal efficiency by single method is limit, and combination of several methods is more effective and provided with better development.
