Enhanced Process in Conventional Water Treatment System for Removal of Carbamazepine

Carbamazepine(CBZ)as an antiepileptic drug has been found existed in surface water and even in drinking water,which together with other kinds of PPCPs has become the focus of potential environmental risk management.Bench scale experiment was carried out on the basis of conventional water treatment process including coagulation and sandfiltration,which was enhanced by pre-oxidation using KMnO4.The operation condition,which was influenced by pH, dosages of chemical(sKMnO4 and poly-aluminum chloride)and thickness of sand layer,was investigated.The result showed removing CBZ from water was mostly attributed to pre-oxidation by KMnO4.
