Architecture of Clonal Population Taxus chinensis var.mairei on Yuanbaoshan Mountain

A tree clonal plant Taxus chinensis var mairei was taken as study material Four 600 m\+2 plots were investigated from Taxus chinensis var mairei concentrating areas that locate in Yuanbaoshan Mountain, Guangxi province The ramets number, height and basediameter, spacer length (the distance of clonal organs interconnected ramets) and displacement of ramets were recorded Clonal architecture of Taxus chinensis var mairei was measured by using an index v, and the influence of architecture on population recruitment was discussedThe morphological traits of ramets in different plots were variedThe average ramet height and basediameter of 4 plots were 245 m and 62 cmThe index v of different plots ranged from 060 to 087It showed that the architectures of Taxus chinensis var mairei were differed in different environment, which would mean that Taxus chinensis var mairei clonal population was likely to have comparatively larger morphological plasticity The index v had good effect on describing architecture of Taxus chinensis var mairei The population recruitment of Taxus chinensis var mairei included seeds recruitment and ramets recruitmentIn natural conditions, ramets recruitment was the primary way of population recruitment The ramets recruitment was dominant in guerrilla Taxus chinensis var mairei, and the seedlings from seeds were seldom found, whereas seeds recruitment increased in phalanx Taxus chinensis var mairei The results suggested that clonal architecture of Taxus chinensis var mairei could affect population recruitment
