Chemical constituents of the essential oil from the leaves of Eucalyptus robusta and its antimicrobial activity

Water-steam distilled Eucalyptus robusta Smith essential oil were analyzed by column chromatography and GC-MS.Then antimicrobial activity of essential oil was tested.The chemical constituents and antimicrobial activity of essential oil were analyzed.The results showed that the E.robusta essential oil had obvious antimicrobial effect against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus.121 peaks were separated,in which 60 compounds that account for 93.9% of crude essential oil were identified by means of GC-MS.Monoterpene and oxygen-containing monoterpenes are major chemical constituents.
